The Building Official of the County of Kauai is charged with the responsibility of enforcing the Countys building laws and ordinances. The Building Code requires the permit application, building plans and specifications filed by an applicant be examined by the Building Official to check for compliance with building laws and ordinances under his jurisdiction.
A building plans examination checklist is developed to assist the building designer in presenting the nature and extent of the proposed work and to aid in the documentation and standardization for the plans examiners report. However, the plan examiners formal approval of the designers work does not relieve the designer of the responsibility of compliance with the County building laws and ordinances. "Approved Building Plans" means that they are approved so far as they meet the minimum requirements of the building laws and ordinance.
SIGNIFICANT AND SUBMITTAL OF THE CHECKLIST:
To judge comprehensively that the permit application, building plans and specifications are acceptable, the designer shall furnish the Building Official with a U.B.C. Commercial Checklist completed Uniform Building Code Commercial Checklist, furnished by the Building Division.
The Uniform Building Code Checklist will assist the plans examiner in the interpretation of the designers work, aid in the code research and provide expeditious examination of the permit application, building plans and specifications.
The Uniform Building Code Commercial Checklist should be filed as part of the building permit documents or it shall be submitted prior to the examination process by the Building Official. Upon issuance of the building permit, the checklist shall be filed with the approved Building Division copy of the approved plans.
The Uniform Building Code Commercial Checklist need not be submitted when authorized by the Building Official.
